VICTORIA DOYLE SUES PALM BEACH COUNTY OVER PBI RENAMING
LAKE WORTH BEACH — Victoria Doyle, CD-23 candidate and longtime trademark attorney, filed a lawsuit in state court against Palm Beach County over its approval of a Trademark License Agreement with Donald Trump in connection with the rebranding of Palm Beach International Airport (PBIA). The complaint seeks an injunction to halt all implementation of the renaming until a parallel lawsuit against the state is adjudicated.
“I am suing to stop all work connected to renaming PBIA until a prior suit filed against the state for preempting home rule and forcing a name change on PBIA is adjudicated on the merits,” Doyle said. “The County’s agreement with DTTM, Trump’s trademark holding company, and Trump himself allows him to control nearly every customer-facing aspect of the airport — and make money off of it ‘in perpetuity.’
“The County Commission’s 4-3 vote approving the trademark licensing deal essentially allows Donald Trump to sell airport merchandise anywhere and everywhere for his own personal gain,” she continued. “This is unacceptable, to me and to the majority of the residents in Palm Beach County.”
Last week, Palm Beach County Commissioners voted 4-3 to approve the trademark license agreement with DTTM and Trump for County use of the trademark “President Donald J. Trump International Airport” in all aspects of airport operations. Earlier this year, the State Legislature, without any input from Palm Beach County residents, renamed PBIA to President Donald J. Trump International Airport. Pilot George W. Poncy, Jr., a resident of Palm Beach County, sued the state to stop the renaming of the airport.
